Chris Schmelzie Wins the NSRA Sprint Main Event

Racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday August 25th, 2012, was full of excitement with six classes on hand, NSRA Sprints, D&S Light Truck & Auto Mini Stocks, Hinkle Homes Hobby Stocks, Olympic Trailer and Truck Accessories Bumblebees, and Outlaw Compacts.

 

NSRA Sprint Main event started with Jake Mann on the pole and Rick Brown on the outside. Mann takes the lead on lap one. Sierra Jackson exits the track on lap ten. On lap seventeen, turn four, Brown spins, Ron Larsen exits the track. Chris Schmelzie takes the lead on lap eighteen. On lap thirty-seven, turn four, Cody Stewart spins. On the restart, turn one, Todd Coleman spins. Schmelzie goes on to win the 40 lap NSRA Sprints Main Event, followed by Brown, Andy Alberding, Randy Dubois, and Robert Beck to round out the top five.

 

Mini Stock Main event started with Bill Hayes on the pole and Kevin Pegg on the outside. Hayes takes the lead on lap one. Pegg takes the lead on lap two. John Morse takes the lead on lap sixteen. Hayes exits the track on lap seventeen. Scott Maynard exits the track on lap twenty. On lap twenty-one, the yellow flag was accidentally waived, some drivers slow and Reggie Gill spins, Grant Charneski t-bones Gill. Dwayne DeYoung exits the track. On lap twenty-three, turn four, Mark Johnson spins and hits Charneski. Checkered flag thrown. Morse wins the shortened 23 lap Mini Stock Main Event, followed by Devin Matthews, Pegg, Freeman Pruitt, and Kevin Conway to round out the top five.

 

Hobby Stock Main event started with Matt Duffey on the pole and Anthony Barbera on the outside. Bryson Baird takes the lead on lap one. On lap one, turn two, Joe Swanson spins. Barbera takes the lead on lap eight. On lap eleven, coming out of four, on the front stretch, Dave Knittle gets loose and spins hitting the wall. Baird with nowhere to go hits Knittle, Dan Walker goes low, but gets a little damage; Swanson goes low and misses the action. Don Briggs Jr. hits Baird trying to avoid the crash. Briggs Jr. takes the lead on lap twelve, when Barbera slows. Briggs goes on to win the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event, followed by Swanson, Duffey, Barbera, and Walker to round out the top five.

 

Bumblebee Main event started with Bryce Randall on the pole and Ron Schlund Jr. on the outside. Ron Schlund Jr. takes the lead on lap one. On lap four, a caution comes out for debris on the track. Steve Pierson takes the lead on lap twelve. On lap twenty, on the back stretch, Dennis Lalander spins. Pierson goes on to win the 25 lap Bumblebee Main Event, followed by Chris Branon, Ron Schlund Jr. Ron Schlund Sr., and Greg Schlund to round out the top five.

 

Outlaw Compact Main event started with Jason Gotz on the pole and Gary Hanawalt on the outside. Gotz takes the lead on lap one. Drew Harthorn takes the lead on lap three. Lorry Safford exits the track on lap eleven. Harthorn exits the track on lap nineteen. Chad Benjamin takes the lead on lap twenty and goes on to win the 25 laps Outlaw Compact Main Event, followed by Hanawalt, Gotz, Eric Angeledes, and Mark Creager to round out the top five.
