MILLER 200 AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY          John King 

If you follow I-5 down to the Southwestern part of the state of Washington and take exit 88.  Go to the stop sign, head East on Old Hwy 99 and go about 3 miles.  You will be at South Sound Speedway, the West coast’s fastest 3/8 mile paved oval.  Home of the Super Stock Miller 200, Saturday, August 9th, 2008.  The Miller 200 will be combined with Finish Line Industries Big 4 Series and the Northwest Tour. At the Miller 200, you will see top Late Model Super Stock drivers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Canada competing for the checkered flag. Current SSS points leader, Monroe, Washington’s #5 Tom Moriarity is on a roll this season with six wins in a row.  Bothell, Washington’s #73 Gary Lewis is on a roll too this season with six wins in a row that include a win at the Montana 200 and last weekends win at the Idaho 200.  
Will it be Moriarity or Lewis winning their 7th race in a row this weekend at the Miller 200, or will both of their winning streaks end at six?  You’ll see last year’s Miller 200 winner and current point’s leader in the Big 4 Series, Kelly Mann back to defend his title, current Limited Late Model point’s leader, JJ Hamilton, and past SSS Super Stock Champion, Tom Sweatman.  From the Northwest Tour, current point’s leader, Brad Stanwood, and past Northwest Tour Champions, Ron Eaton, and Pete Harding.  This race will have more past champions in it than any other race you will see in the Northwest this season.

HAMILTON WINS LIMITED LATE MODEL RACE AT SSS

     

 

2007 South Sound Speedway Champions

 The Quality Car Care Limited Late Models saw 13 cars make an attempt to qualify, Saturday, August 2, 1008 at South Sound Speedway, the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval.  There were eight crate and five compression engines.  It was Snohomish, Washington’s #1 Shane Sawin setting fast time with a 13.842.  Sawin has a compression engine.  The last LLM race Driver of the week was #11 JJ Hamilton. The #44 Darren Pierson would bring the field around for the green flag start, but it was the #6 Devin Eierman jumping into the early lead until his motor started missing and the #91 Arlyn Long would pass Eierman for the lead on lap 15.  Long moved out to a 10 car lead over second place while last year’s LLM Champion and current points leader, Centralia, Washington’s #11 JJ “The Crate Motor Kid” Hamilton, driving the Northstar Home Mortgage/Norpac Street Performance/Auto Trim Design Dodge Charger, passing everyone on the outside from his ninth place starting position.  Hamilton ran down Long and made a pass to the outside of Long on lap 38 and went on to win the 50-Lap Limited Late Model Main Event.  Hamilton also won $100.00 winners bonus sponsored by Capital Glass of Olympia.  Rounding out their top five were runner up Long, Sawin, Chad Hinkle, and Kyle Markstrom. 

The Foreign Stock Car Racing Association Super 4’s saw Rochester, Washington’s #5 Wayne Dillon set fast time with a 14.480.  The top three in their A-Heat were winner #9 Cody Stewart, John Grosvenor, and Dillon.  The top three in their B-Heat were winner #8 Matt Melby, Kevin Koepke, and Shelby Minor-Ball. The #8 Melby would bring the field around for the start of the Super 4’s 25-Lap Main Event and lead the first 15 laps.  On lap 16, the #5 Dillon, driving the Junction Sports Bar & Grill/Jail Sucks Bail Bonds/Mark’s Gutter Ford Fusion, put a move on Melby for the lead and went on to win the Super 4’s Main Event.  Rounding out their top five were runner up Melby, Grosvenor, Renny Marose, and Tom Keehan. 

The Bumblebees Heat #1 race winner was the #29 Kyle Matthews.  The Heat #2 race winner was the #35 Dave Crawford. The winner in their 20-Lap Main Event was Olympia, Washington’s #15 Kevin Haider, driving the Haider Racing/Hamilton Racing Nissan Sentra.  Finishing second and third was K. Matthews and Crawford.

 The top three in the Vintage Sprint Heat race were winner #96 Frank Volz, Dan Robinson, and Jerry Day. The #8 Dick Nelson would bring the field around for the green flag start, but it was the #49 Dan Robinson leading the first two laps.  The #96 Volz would lead lap three with the #76 Day taking away the lead on lap four and going on to win the 12-Lap Vintage Sprints Main Event.  Rounding out their top five were runner up Volz, Marvin Price, Robinson, and Nelson. 

 The Vintage Midgets Heat race winner was the #6 Brian McMurtey.  Their Main Event winner was the #11 Lenora McMurtey.

The AMRS Mini Cup Future Stars saw the #3 Seth Cooper set fast time with a 17.572.  Cooper and the #2 Parker Stephens would finish first and second respectively in both their Heat race and Main Event. 

Upcoming racing at South Sound Speedway:  Saturday, August 9, 2008 features the Super Stock Miller 200-Big 4 Series, Mini Stocks, and Baby Grands.  Then on Saturday, August 16, 2008, come see the Limited Late Models, WESCO, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks compete.  Back gate opens at 1:00 PM; front gate opens at 4:45 PM with qualifying starting at 5:00 PM, Autograph session around 6:00 PM, and racing at 6:30 PM.  Visit southsoundspeedway.com for more information
