Dan Walker wins Hobby Stock Main Event

Racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday May 19th was filled with racing action. In the Hobby Stock main event, Mike Carlson starts on the pole with Michael Martinez on the outside. Carlson takes the lead on lap one. On lap four, Bryson Baird and Don Briggs Jr. go to the outside to pass other drivers, Briggs Jr. slips into the middle to make it three wide in turn four. On lap five, Briggs Jr. does a bunny hop and hits the wall head on in turn four. Jason Lohmann and Baird leave the track. Racing continues, Martinez scrapes the wall coming out of turn 4 going down the front stretch. Todd Pederson takes the lead on lap seven. Dan Walker takes the lead on lap eight. Chris Branon exits the track on lap fourteen. Joe Swanson slows on lap eighteen going down the front stretch and exits the track. Branon returns to the track on lap nineteen. Swanson returns on lap twenty-six. Walker goes on to win the thirty lap Hobby Stock main event, followed by Pederson, Carlson, Martinez, and Matt Duffey to round out the top five.
Baby Grand Main event started with Mark Maynard Jr. on the pole with Bryan Crawford on the outside. Bryan Crawford takes the lead on lap one. Jim Guinn takes the lead on lap two. Guinn gets a mechanical flag on lap three for leaking fuel and exits the track. Brad Crawford takes the lead on lap four and goes on to win the twenty lap Baby Grand main event, followed by Bryan Crawford, Maynard, and Guinn rounding out the field.
Bumblebee Main event started with Steve Pierson on the pole and Doug Baird on the outside. Pierson takes the lead on lap one. Greg Schlund gets black flagged on lap one for taking out the cone. On the same lap, Curtiss Buchanan gets black flagged for not following the course. Caution on lap two to reset the course. Erika Schlund is moved to the back of the pack for spinning another driver. Jonathan Curfman gets black flagged for not following the course. On lap five Erika Schlund is black flagged for spinning Dennis Lalander. On lap nine Grant Charneski goes on two wheels trying to pass Ron Schlund Sr. On lap eighteen, Pierson the leader of the race by ½ a lap hits the cone. Cone is still standing; Pierson trying to start his car, finally gets it started, backs up, and pulls around the cone just in front of second place Chris Branon. Pierson goes on to win the twenty lap bumblebee main event, followed by Branon, Schlund Sr., Charneski, and Shawn Breitzman to round out the top five.
Vintage Modified main event starts with Robert Rux on the pole, with Tom Smitham on the outside. Rux takes the lead on lap one. On lap five Jeff Peterson takes over the lead. On lap twenty-eight Rux slows on the back stretch bringing out a caution. Race continues with Jeff Pederson going on to win the Vintage Modified thirty lap main event, followed by Bobby Wheeler Jr., Mike Clother, Bob Fulmer, and Smitham to round out the top five.
WMRA main event started with Troy Globe on the pole and Ray Jones on the outside. Jones takes the lead on lap one. James Pirie takes the lead on lap two. Caution on lap three for debris. Evan Margeson takes the lead on lap five. Caution comes out on lap nineteen when Steve Hughes spins in turn four, Pirie hits Hughes, Margeson was coming up to pass and avoids the spinning cars. Kris McKenzie’s throttle gets stuck wide open and exits the track on the caution. Margeson goes on to win the thirty lap WMRA main event, followed by Globe, McKenzie, Jones, and Kevin Koepke to round out the top five.
